Personal Branding Portrait Session in Santa Cruz

There is something really special about photographing people who are stepping into a new chapter of their work. Nastasja recently reached out to me while building something deeply intentional here in Santa Cruz—a new concept called Liminal, a collective centered around whole-human health and the intersection of integrative care, creativity, community, and healing. Originally from the Netherlands, Nastasja moved to Santa Cruz a little over a year ago and shared how this place has expanded her vision for what she wants to create professionally. As a psychologist and researcher, she is blending science, human connection, and creativity in a way that feels incredibly aligned with the spirit of Santa Cruz. For her personal branding portrait session in Santa Cruz, we wanted to create imagery that felt professional while still grounded, natural, and approachable. The goal was to create portraits that felt elevated without feeling overly polished or disconnected from who she is. That is always what I aim for during branding sessions—photographs that feel like an honest extension of the person behind the work. With branding photography, I believe the strongest images come from creating space for people to simply show up as themselves. Instead of stiff poses or overly curated moments, we focused on movement, natural light, and subtle direction that allowed Nastasja’s thoughtful and grounded presence to come through naturally. There was such a quiet confidence throughout this session. The soft coastal light, the natural textures of Santa Cruz, and the simplicity of being outdoors created the perfect backdrop for imagery that reflects the heart behind her work. As she prepares to launch Liminal and step further into this next season of her professional journey, it felt really meaningful to document this in-between moment—that space where vision is still unfolding, but already deeply rooted. These are some of my favorite kinds of sessions to photograph: the ones that hold both becoming and clarity at the same time.
